This sgian dubh is handmade using sustainable Ebony and Bog Oak finished with a polished Ebony blade. The solid brass Lion Rampant is available in a choice of blue or red inlay.

This is a daywear sgian dubh, to be worn with Highland kilt.  Local leather is used to create a sheath for the blade.

Perfect as part of a Highland outfit or as a gift. All of our sgian dubhs are made to order, with a normal lead time being 2-3 weeks, however, if we have one in the shop at the time of order, it will be dispatched sooner.

Each sgian dubh is unique, and because of the organic materials used, will vary slightly from the image.

Handmade in Scotland.

The Sgian Dubh.

The sgian-dubh (/ˌskiːən ˈduː/ skee-ən-DOO; Scottish Gaelic pronunciation: [s̪kʲənˈt̪u]) is a small, single-edged knife (Scottish Gaelic: sgian) worn as part of traditional Scottish Highland dress along with the kilt.

Originally used for eating and preparing fruit, meat, and cutting bread and cheese, as well as serving for other more general day-to-day uses such as cutting material and protection, it is now worn as part of traditional Scottish dress tucked into the top of the kilt hose with only the upper portion of the hilt visible. The sgian-dubh is normally worn on the same side as the dominant hand.
