Handcrafted using Scottish Deer and finished with a Buffalo top mount, this sgian dubh has a stainless steel blade with serrated edge and blood line.  This is simple design, daywear sgian dubh, to be worn with Highland kilt.  Local leather is used to create a sheath which protects the blade.

Perfect as part of a Highland outfit or as a gift. All of our sgian dubhs are made to order, with a normal lead time being 2-3 weeks, however, if we have one in the shop at the time of order, it will be dispatched sooner.

Each sgian dubh is unique, and because of the organic materials used, will vary slightly from the image. This is a daywear sgian dubh.

Handmade in Scotland.

The Sgian Dubh.

The sgian-dubh (/ˌskiːən ˈduː/ skee-ən-DOO; Scottish Gaelic pronunciation: [s̪kʲənˈt̪u]) is a small, single-edged knife (Scottish Gaelic: sgian) worn as part of traditional Scottish Highland dress along with the kilt.

Originally used for eating and preparing fruit, meat, and cutting bread and cheese, as well as serving for other more general day-to-day uses such as cutting material and protection, it is now worn as part of traditional Scottish dress tucked into the top of the kilt hose with only the upper portion of the hilt visible. The sgian-dubh is normally worn on the same side as the dominant hand.
